Ipolani's Babies

Here's where I get to tell you a little about myself and Ipolani Boston Terriers.

I'm Blair and I live in San Jose with my Boston Terriers, Dolly, Doodles, and Kunani. The Bay Area has nearly the perfect climate for Boston Terriers - not too hot, not too cold. I'm a fairly recent transplant to the area with my last residence before moving to California was New York City.

I've had many dogs and cats over the years since early childhood, some purebred including a Dalmation, Standard Poodle, French Bulldog, Border Collie, and a Pug. I've also had many mixed breeds as my family was doing rescue long before the term was ever coined in the context of dogs and cats.

My first Boston, Ipolani came to me after my cat and companion of 14 years, Miss Thing crossed the rainbow bridge after a bout with a very aggressive form of cancer. A new cat was out of the question as I found after I had her for eight years that I am allergic to cats. I can't imagine life without my fuzzy babies so I started researching dogs and found the best breed for my lifestyle is the Boston Terrier.

I adopted Ipolani the weekend before Thanksgiving in 2004. She has been my little Diva ever since, and I was hooked. At the time I was also on the waiting list at ChriMaso Boston Terriers. Pamela called me shortly after I adopted Ipolani and asked me if I was still looking. When she interviewed me she asked if I was interested in showing and I half jokingly said yes. She had a show potential puppy she wanted to place in a good home. I was planning on getting a second Boston as at the time I lived alone and worked outside the home. I knew Ipo needed some company, but I hadn't planned on adopting another one so soon! One look at ChriMasos Palladium Chanteuse (Dolly) and I knew I just had to say yes. Pamela has been a close friend and my mentor ever since. I've had tons of fun showing Dollyand while we've decided not to breed her, her career continues as a performance dog training for competition in Obedience and Rally. I acquired Doodles from Pamela and she has gone on to get her AKC and Canadian Champion titles and I've had the privilege of showing her at the Eukanuba show in Long Beach.

I consider my Bostons to be my "kids" and while Ipolani Boston Terriers is a "kennel" my dogs are all indoor dogs and my companions first and foremost. They all sleep in the bed with me at night. In fact it's difficult for me to sleep without Dolly curled up under my arm and snoring softly in my ear while Kunani and Doodles are snuggled tightly against me and a rescue I'm fostering down by my feet. All of them are very well socialized and they get along with other dogs, cats (they LOVE playing with my sister's cats), small children, and other adults. When I breed all puppies are sheltered in the house, staying inside until they're old enough to begin potty training under Daddy's watchful supervision.

My extended family is very much involved and interested in my babies. Ipo lives with my parents and spends her daysdays at their home getting spoiled and training to be a therapy dog. She is amazingly empathic and knows who isn't feeling well and how to be a loving and quiet companion.

I am an active member of the Boston Terrier Club of America.
